Alpha 1 arrived at Kg Ambong and settled into camp, fixing up their bashers and stowing their supplies and equipment. The bulk of their work over the last couple of weeks has been working up at the water source on the dam, where they have completed the foundations, moved rocks up to the source and filled and cemented the rocks into the gabions.
They are taking a well earned day off on sunday visiting the market at Kota Belud and going on a fishing trip this afternoon – hopefully they wont actually break the jetty like the phase one group did!
Alpha 2 arrived at Batu Puteh village and spent the first afternoon setting up the camp and settling into life on the edge of the Kinabatangan River. Despite a few hiccups with the radio communications, the team continue to work full throttle on the eco camp. They are shifting seemingly endless amounts of wood and mud bags, as well as clearing the views out on to the lake around the guest bedroom platforms, and completing the rails, bridge and the pathways around the site.
It seems however that some of the local animals aren’t appreciating their hard work – whilst the team were at the site, a daring raid on the alpha group camp was in full swing by the local monkey troop and they stole eggs and bananas as well as leaving a message for the group on their dining table in the form of a rather large turd! The group remains undeterred, however a guard against further raids has been initiated.
